The Westport Arts Center offers flexible programming for students exploring all different types of curricula. We know how important it is for students in homeschool programs to have access to high quality arts experiences, tours and socialization, and are preparing to offer Homeschool Workshops each month.
Begin this specialized homeschool session by receiving your own hardcover, 150 page, blank sketchbook to customize and make your own. All great creatives have their special sketchbook, and spend this unique class getting a jump-start on making your own!
The focus of this residency will be the creation of a personal “Art Diary” facilitating students in filling the pages with an array of projects exploring identity, art history, and classic and contemporary methods.
Each 1.5-hour session will incorporate the study of a piece of artwork hanging in the Westport Arts Center gallery (Local Artists and Vivian Maier!), and be followed by an innovative project based on the observations and characteristics of the particular piece studied.
Students will be encouraged to continue their artistic exploration in their sketchbooks at home between classes, and each class will end with a show-and-tell critique focused on what students created on their own at home.
Ending with a family-welcome fieldtrip to the Brooklyn Art Library, students will be able to explore hundreds of professional artists’ sketchbooks as part of the Sketchbook Project.
“The Sketchbook Project began in 2006 in Atlanta, GA and moved to New York City in 2009. Since that time, our small organization has grown into a worldwide community of more than 70,000 artists. By focusing on the intersection of hands-on art making and new technology, The Sketchbook Project nurtures community-supported art projects that harness the power of the virtual world to share inspiration in the real world.”
Students will get their hands on an array of materials, exploring the possibilities while expressing themselves through the arts. Combining art history and hands-on practice, this class is a full-range cultural art experience.
Paint markers, permanent markers, colored pencils, and collage, this book will have it all.
