Roll up your sleeves and get creative with your family at Westport Arts Center’s Family Art Day: Art of Kindness on Sunday, November 20 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to the Westport Arts Center for an immersive artistic experience. The gallery will be transformed into multiple project stations where kids can color, build, design and experiment with unusual materials.
Celebrating its 5th year, Family Art Day has become a much-anticipated family event. The theme of this year’s event is the Art of Kindness, aligned with our current exhibition, MORE Than Words/#iammore, focused on courage, resilience and empowerment in the face of bullying. This year, our projects are all inspired by the idea of creating handmade, unique, and personal gifts that can be shared with those whom we love and admire.
Westport Arts Center’s Education Manager Noah Steinman explained, “We’ve designed a range of projects that will allow kids to explore new mediums and to create works of art based on giving and kindness. The event is a great way to engage children in these themes, especially around the holidays.”
The event will also feature an opportunity for families to donate toys and gifts to other children in desperate need, through a partnership with Al’s Angels founded by Al DiGuido. The mission of Al’s Angels is to provide holiday meals and gifts to children and families battling with cancer, rare blood diseases and severe financial hardship. Attendees can bring a wrapped gift or make a financial donation at the event.
The backdrop for Family Art Day: Art of Kindness is the MORE Than Words/#iammore exhibition, featuring juried work from the community at large. Of special note are the more than twenty works on display created by our Junior Category (ages 10-17).
