Our annual summer member artist exhibition, SELECTS 2017, was on view July 14 through September 2, 2017.
The exhibition was juried by Charlotte Strick, Art Editor of The Paris Review literary magazine and Claire Williams Martinez, former Chapter President of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Design) Chicago. The jurors are also the co-founders and principals of the Brooklyn, NY-based multidisciplinary design firm, Strick&Williams, where they collaborate with cultural institutions and clients in the arts, education, publishing and non-profits.
The nine artists selected for SELECTS 2017 were as follows:
- Eric Chiang, Westport
- Barbara Cigarroa, New York, NY
- Louise Flax, Norwalk
- William Glaser, Weston
- Tracy Hoffman, Chappaqua, NY
- Linda Lindroth, New Haven
- Xiao Mai Kong, Westport
- Richard Silverspoon, Hartford
- Jarvis Wilcox, Westport
Of the works selected, the jurors stated, “The SELECTS 2017 exhibition brings together the works of eight Connecticut and New York-based artists, each with a very different perspective, but all bringing a high level of formal ability to their craft. We selected these artists from over one hundred entries, based on the conversations we hope their individual works will have with one another in the gallery. While the works themselves represent a variety of media and varying interest in conceptual thinking versus a mastery of traditional skills, we feel that these artists collectively share a common spirit and energy, and we are excited to celebrate their work through the Westport Arts Center and the wider community.”
