Family Art Day: Create Your Family’s Modern Crest
Join us at the Westport Arts Center on Sunday, March 26th, from 1:00-3:00 for family fun and art! We will be introducing our Summer Camp 2017 program by running projects that give you a taste of our exciting camp lineup, as well as celebrating our upcoming exhibit, “Main Street to Madison Avenue,” which honors Westport’s unique role in mid-century art and advertising, and current exhibit, “As We Are,” which explores our individual identities.
Caroline Wurtzel, Illustrator and Graphic Designer from online magazine Bustle.com, will be visiting WAC and giving her quirky design insight while guiding families to create their own contemporary family logo, highlighting design and identity.
Once children and their guardians have branded their unique family name, they will be invited to meet our team of educators and partake in two separate mini-projects introducing some of the exciting courses we will be offering this coming summer while continuing to celebrate “you!”
Create colorful masks allowing you to wear your true colors, and plant a succulent at our terrarium station in pots you will embellish with your new family logo and names.
End your day with the opportunity to secure your spot in our Summer Camp 2017 programming by renewing your membership or joining as a new member and receive an additional 10% off your registration fee, totaling in a 20% discount off your Summer Camp 2017 registration or upcoming Spring Session classes. This one-time registration special is available only during Family Art Day.
Table 1: Family Logo
Sit down with Caroline Wurtzel from Bustle.com to learn about contemporary and fun design and work together to develop your own family logo. Pencils and markers will work together to create colorful and unique pieces that will look great hanging in your foyer. Incorporate icons that represent each member of your family, while getting a taste for the world of advertising that we will be celebrating with our upcoming exhibit, “Main Street to Madison Avenue.”
Table 2: Magical Masks
Express yourself with wearable art celebrating your true identity by creating mixed-media masks! Students will create masks to demonstrate who they are and who they want to be. Decorate yourself as the true princess you are by embellishing your mask with jewels and glitter, or show us your superpower by creating the perfect piece to top off your secret identity.
Table 3: Pot to Plant
End your day of creating by decorating a planter with your new family logo and the names of your family members, and then work together to choose and plant the perfect succulent to nurture and grow at home. As your family grows and evolves, so will your new plant!
