Vivian Maier Exhibition Curator Talk Featuring Howard Greenberg
Oct 28, 2017
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Please join us for a special Curator Talk event on Saturday, Oct 28 at 7:30 PM at the Westport Arts Center featuring Howard Greenberg of Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York.
Greenberg will share his insights on street photography and the photographs currently featured in the Vivian Maier - a Lifetime of Photographs exhibition at the Arts Center through November 10.
The exhibition features over seventy color and black & white photographs taken by the secretive nanny-photographer during her lifetime. The photographs are on loan from the Howard Greenberg Gallery.
JUST ANNOUNCED! Ann Marks, the author of Vivian Maier Developed, will join our Curator Talk. The only person in the world granted access to 140,000 photographs, home movies and tape recordings, Marks has written the definitive biography on Maier. Read more about the book in AP News.
Vivian Maier's story has been pieced together only from the images she made and from the handful of facts that have surfaced about her life. For over five decades while she served as a nanny in Chicago and New York, she shot more than 100,000 images, which she kept hidden from the world. Maier captured both revealing self-portraits and casual, unposed images of people in urban America; she was interested in the fringes of society, and had special interest in the poor and the forgotten.
Refreshments will be served. Advance registration is suggested; the Curator Talk is $25 for WAC Members, $40 for non-members, and $15 for students. Tickets available by calling the Arts Center at 203/222-7070 or at westportartscenter.org.
The Curator Talk is generously sponsored by The Hofstetter Baron Group/Wells Fargo Advisors.
